CES 2011 tron car

At the start of this year we reported on how the country’s leading tech show, CES, in Las Vegas was successful due partly to a large leap in the number of international companies and professionals attending.

Well now, the official audit figures are in from Veris Consulting LLC, confirming that 31,677 industry professionals from outside the U.S. attended the 2011 International CES – setting a new record for the 45-year old event.

Overall, the 2011 International CES welcomed 149,529 technology attendees during its four day run.

Veris is certified by the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) to perform audits and for the CES event, it made sure that each CES attendee was counted only once, and that show size was calculated using only exhibit space sold, not hallways or bartered space.

Friday, May 6th, 2011

rfid badgeYou may have seen the term ‘RFID’ knocking about and may not know exactly what it means but, when it comes to events and shows, RFID is fast becoming an essential tool for making your attendees happy.

RFID stands for Radio-frequency identification, a technology that uses radio waves to exchange data between a reader and an electronic tag attached to an object – or person – in order to ID or track them. In other words, you probably come across it all of the time without knowing it in your everyday life.

When it comes to shows, it can be a real asset. At the recent RFID Journal LIVE! 2011 show, the technology was used to its full extent, with attendees getting a free RFID badge on arrival.

Apart from instant checking-in, the badge….. Read the rest of this entry »

ces 2011

It’s been a glum time for the exhibit sector in recent years but, thankfully, there are signs that the industry is getting back on its feet.

Less two weeks ago, the world’s largest technology show – CES 2011 – rolled into Vegas and, after a few hectic days, rolled on out again with a clutch of new exhibitor and attendance records that point to a real upturn for the sector.

While CES 2010 was up slightly on the CES 2008 and CES 2009 events, the recent show really showed an improvement. Early figures suggest exhibitors were up 200 to 2,700 compared to CES 2010 – a rise of 8% – while approximately 140,000 industry professionals hit the event, up more than 10%.

Here at Best In Show we already covered how CES was attracting a lot more international exhibitors. See “International Tech Companies Invade Las Vegas”.

Marketing Technology Is A Trade Show Essential

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

jagtagMarketing technology is a big umbrella term for pretty much anything electronic or online that can be used to promote your event.

Despite its wide embrace, one thing is certain: marketing technology is now essential to getting your trade show or event noticed, tracking all those leads and judging whether or not your company’s show spend was worth it.

An Exhibitor Magazine survey has just revealed that 82% of exhibitors incorporate technology into their marketing efforts, with more than 72% using a variety of technologies to specifically enhance their exhibit-marketing efforts. This compares to just 49% who report incorporating technology into their company corporate events.

Digital Media Makes For Better Shows

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

smsIt seems like the occasional use of some digital media technology to enhance a trade show is on the increase, as more and more companies turn to digital tools to get the most from events.

The latest research from exhibition industry watchdog, the Center for Exhibition Research (CEIR), shows that exhibition marketers are using a wider variety of digital media  from online ads to onsite SMS messaging to make those invaluable new contacts.

“Exhibition marketers have been increasingly leveraging digital media to enhance the value of their events, facilitate partner networking, and promote their products and services,” said CEIR Executive Director Cathy Breden. “However, this data suggests that a much deeper and broader change is sweeping the exhibit marketing industry, with players at every level making a real commitment to digital adoption.”

Some of the key findings include:
