Gadget freaks from across the nation will this week be hitting the road or tuning into any tech-related news that comes out of Las Vegas.
This week the city is home to the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow event, the 2011 International CES show [January 6-11], and the good news is that 1,200 technology companies from outside the Unites States are expected to exhibit there. Why is that good? Well, it’s 25% up on last year’s international attendance and points to an improving exhibit sector and growing economic confidence.
According to the organisers, the show will attract more than 120,000 attendees from over 130 countries.
One of the reasons for the show’s success is that the organisers constantly update the format to stay current – or ahead – of the technology curve.
This year, CES will feature 20 market-specific TechZones, including new destinations like 3D@Home, with content creators, service providers and TV manufacturers that make 3D in the home a reality; Access on the Go, focusing on devices like eBooks, netbooks, smartbooks and tablets and, for the first time, Connected Home Appliances, which will showcase the latest interactive, energy efficient and SmartGrid enabled white goods appliances.
Other new TechZones include:
Mobile DTV: featuring consumer devices that bring the digital living room to the car and portable devices.
The Electric Vehicle TechZone: highlighting a full range of high and low speed vehicles, energy storage devices and charging equipment.
Sports and Fitness Tech: focused on tools for the sports enthusiast and key trends impacting the multi-billion dollar sports, fitness and outdoors markets.
